How-to: Make a Ruffle

Step one :
Cut a strip of cloth twice the width and length you want the finished ruffle to be.

Step 2 :
Fold the strip in half long ways. If you want a flatter, crisp ruffle you can press it at this point. The one shown has not been pressed

Step 3:
Sew a gathering line of stitches as close to the edge as you can get.
Then sew another line close to the first.

Step 4: Pull the top 2 threads at one end , scrunching the fabric up as you go.

You then just sew it on to your project between the 2 lines of stitching.
All done and you have a cute little ruffle! :-D

Sense & Sensibility Forum and Patterns

Here is a link to a great site that I use all the time as a resource.
It is a message board/forum where you are able to post your sewing questions, read and learn from others experience. There are several resident experts and most all of them have extensive experience in historical costuming.
(my favorite !) It is a very clean safe site that that I highly recommend !

If any of you join, leave a comment with your user name! :-D

The same lady who started this forum also has many beautiful, quality pattern for sale.
They come all sizes to a pattern which is wonderful for family's with multiple sized people ! ;-)
I have used several and I just love them ! She also now offers E-patterns online.
